ICT in the Primary School |
|
In the Infants, ICT is incorporated into our regular teaching
programmes. Specialist computer skills are taught in small groups to
allow individualised attention. The Infants have a small suite of
personal computer workstations suitable for small group working.
In Year 3, the personal notebook programme is introduced. Year 3
students use their personal notebook in class during the week but take
it home at the weekend. A specialist ICT teacher gradually familiarises
children with the range of programmes and operations they will be using
in regular classes. From Year 4, children use their personal notebook in
regular lessons, where appropriate. Our aim is to teach children to make
appropriate use of technology. Therefore, traditional skills such as
spelling, handwriting and mental maths still form an essential part of
the Primary school curriculum. The school has a protective firewall and
internet-use policy, which allows safe, supervised use of the internet
during classroom time.
