Unit 4: Persuasive Speaking and Writing

In this unit you will explore the art of persuasion. You will consider the techniques writers use to persuade and you will produce your own persuasive texts.

Speaking and Listening

1) You will write a persuasive speech and take part in a debate.

Reading

2) You will study a variety of persuasive texts – magazine and newspaper articles, advertisements, speeches, and charity leaflets.

3) You will consider the presentation of facts and opinions in persuasive texts and you will investigate bias.

4) You will identify and consider the effects of a wide range of writers’ persuasive techniques.

Writing

You will write several persuasive texts. In the process of writing you will:
