Assessment - Creative Writing.

 

These criteria  relate to the level students are expected to reach in Year 9. Assessment of work in years 7 & 8 will take account of  the developmental nature of skills acquisition.

 A.

Writing confident and interesting, showing suitable choices of style in a range of forms, appropriate to the audience and purpose.
Characters, events and settings developed.
Different sentence structures and varied vocabulary used to create impressive effects.
Grammar and vocabulary accurately and effectively used.
Spelling correct.
Paragraphing and correct punctuation used.

 

B.

Writing quite interesting, showing some changes of style and register to different forms.
Different sentence structures and varied vocabulary used to create effects.
Spelling generally accurate.
Paragraphing used correctly.
Correct punctuation usually used.

 

C.

Writing fairly interesting, using a more formal style where appropriate.
Some imaginative vocabulary used.
Spelling usually correct.
Paragraphing used correctly.
Commas, apostrophes and inverted commas usually used accurately.

 

D.

Writing clear and fairly organised.
Vocabulary usually appropriate, but unimaginative.
Some spelling mistakes.
Some attempt at paragraphing.
Limited punctuation (full stops, capital letters, question marks, commas).

 

E.

Writing in simple words and phrases.
Vocabulary limited and repetitive.
Many spelling mistakes.
Little or no attempt at paragraphing.
Only very basic punctuation used.
